Save our space
By Indra Hasbi
When are quipped with both my son, suddenly comes just a thought in my head. The mind is a calculation. I have two sons, meaning each replace I and my wife. But, it is not as easy as that. Thirty years later, both people my son may each also has two children. If anything, the second son of them equally replaces both parents, but with three generations of means in one round of generation, there are multiples of the human population is added. If each partner only has two children. In fact, many families in the world who has a child with a number of even more. Reduction of the food source Every year we witness the decline in agricultural land for food sources. A lot of fertile land turns into residential and industrial area. With the growing human population, the need for land settlement and industry are also increasingly. Therefore, agricultural land for food sources, increasingly shrinking. This fact contrary to the needs of the food. The growing human population, also means increasing food needs. Understandable, many countries have now been turned into a food importer countries. In contrast, almost nothing has changed to become exporters. It could be, one day, the food will be the product which is very expensive, more expensive than the price of gold jewel. Reduction in the area of forest The forest is not just a place to suggest biological resources. The forest is also the source of the oxygen we breathe. The forest is also a carbon sink. With the growth of the population, the forests in various developing countries, which is considered the lungs of the world. To meet the needs of his life, the palm plantation communities need most less 6 ha of land. If a member of his family grew 2 people, then it takes 12 ha of land. In the lapse of thirty years, if one family consistently have 2 children, it takes 24 ha of land. How to have more of it? In the last 10 years, I have witnessed how the area originally wilderness turned into residential and palm plantations. How the world in the future? |

You raise some good points about the diminishing natural resources the world is facing.
Hi, Ghobro, There is another, serious, aspect to this reduction in land area. Most towns and cities have large areas of land that is not being used and empty properties - all being held in the hopes of growth in value. This leads to developers looking to out of town areas for new development land, creating just the scenario you paint. Maybe properties in urban areas should be taxed while they are empty or idle. After all, there will be no gains tax on the growth in value, if it takes place.
I understand very well what you wrote. It has been said, however, that the earth can produce enough food for the nations, there is just a distribution problem. That is easy to see in places like Canada and the U.S. where the land is not being totally utilized but perhaps where you are from the land is scarce and it is being deforested rapidly. Thank you for writing this excellent intel.
